MAYVILLE, NY – County Government is once again showing its support for United Way of Chautauqua County with employees throughout its many departments taking part in this year’s payroll pledge campaign.
County Executive PJ Wendel kicked off the County government United Way campaign by noting: “Our county workforce serves this community every day, both as public servants and as active members of our community. By contributing to United Way through the payroll pledge campaign, our departments are turning everyday generosity into lasting support for neighbors in need. This is a great example of how County government partners with the community for the betterment of everyone.”
County employees participating in the United Way campaign contribute a modest gift from each paycheck, which combined with all the other donors transform community generosity into real change. Last year alone, United Way programs impacted the lives of local individuals 52,213 times – an impact only possible because of the collective giving of so many workplaces and individuals.
That spirit of collective giving is also the heart of this year’s campaign theme: “On our own we can only do so much. United, we do more.”
Underscoring the critical role United Way plays in fueling programs which impact local children, family and seniors, United Way Executive Director Amy Rohler and 2025 Campaign Co-Chair Andy Goodell recently addressed county leadership and department heads at a meeting in Mayville.
“County government touches so many aspects of daily life, and that’s why it’s so meaningful to see the employees of Chautauqua County Government step up in this way,” Rohler said. “When county staff contribute to United Way, they are directly investing in stronger communities — ensuring kids succeed in school, families build stability, and neighbors have the supports they need to thrive.”
100 percent of donations made to United Way remain local here in Chautauqua County, going to fund programs which positively impact the lives of residents in every community. Goodell, a former County Executive himself, echoed the call to action. “What inspires me most about the county’s campaign is the spirit of leadership it represents,” he said. “County employees understand better than most how great the needs are in our community — from young people looking for opportunity to families struggling to get ahead.”
For more than 100 years, United Way has been the trusted nonprofit in Chautauqua County to mobilize the community and drive impact for lasting change. United Way is uniquely poised to connect all sectors of the community (individuals, businesses, nonprofits and government), and leverage those connections to mobilize people to action.
The mission of United Way of Chautauqua County is to mobilize the community to help every person and family improve their lives. To achieve that goal requires the help of individuals from all areas of the community.
