MAYVILLE, N.Y – The Chautauqua County Health Department, in conjunction with the Village of Fredonia has lifted the boil water order for all Village of Fredonia water customers, including customers within the Town of Pomfret.
Turbidity in the distribution system has returned to acceptable levels and two consecutive days of testing indicate that the water throughout the distribution system is safe for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, making coffee, etc.
Village officials and the Health Department are asking Village of Fredonia water customers to conserve water when possible. Turbidity levels at the water treatment plant are currently in acceptable ranges. However, a large increase in demand could disrupt the balance that has recently been restored to water treatment plant operations.
Simple ways to conserve water:
- Take shorter showers.
- Turn off the water while shaving, washing up, brushing teeth, and washing dishes.
- Run only full loads in the dishwasher and washing machine.
- Do not water lawns and flowers.
- Do not wash personal vehicles.
- Sweep sidewalks and driveways instead of hosing them off.
All plumbing lines that have not been used regularly since the boil water went into effect should be flushed before water from that line is consumed. This includes ice makers and refrigerator water dispensers.
If you did not receive regular updates and alerts regarding the boil water order we encourage you to sign up for the NY Alert system at alert.ny.gov/sign-ny-alert-0 and make sure you register a phone number or email address that you use regularly.
