Health Insurance Information, Counseling and Assistance - (HIICAP)

Chautauqua County Office for the Aging's HIICAP program provides accurate and objective information, counseling, assistance and advocacy on Medicare, private health insurance, and related health coverage plans. Certified HIICAP counselors help people with Medicare, their representatives, or persons soon to be eligible for Medicare.

Call NY Connects for an appointment at an office near you. Open enrollment (to change your plan) for Medicare generally goes from October 15th to Dec 7th. Those turning 65 can enroll in Medicare up to 3 months before or 3 months after they turn 65. Penalties may apply if you do not enroll when you turn 65 and do not have credible coverage from another source. You can enroll on line through the Social Security website (see link below). While there is no charge for this program, donations are gratefully accepted to ensure the service is available to everyone.

If you need help, guidance or more information on Medicare call the local NY Connects Helpline at 753-4582, 363-4582, or 661-7582.
