Rural health was among the key topics discussed at last week’s New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC) Fall Conference held in Niagara County. Chautauqua County was honored to have our Public Health Director, Lacey Wilson, speak about the ongoing public health challenges facing rural communities and the meaningful progress being made locally.

“It was both an honor and a privilege to present to statewide leaders about our department’s effective, innovative, and results-driven work in the areas of rural health economics,” said Wilson. “Being invited to share our approach reflects the ingenuity and expertise of our team, and underscores the strong support we receive from our County Executive, Legislators, and county leadership. Their continued encouragement empowers us to pursue bold, creative strategies that enhance the health and well-being of our entire community.”

County Executive PJ Wendel praised Wilson and her staff for their dedication and impact.

“Lacey’s leadership and her team’s commitment to tackling rural health challenges are truly exemplary,” said Wendel. “Their work not only improves outcomes here in Chautauqua County, but also positions us as a model for other rural counties across New York State. We are incredibly proud of their efforts and the well-deserved recognition they have earned.”

Wilson’s presentation was part of a broader discussion at the conference, where counties across New York shared strategies to strengthen public health systems, address rural disparities, and ensure healthier futures for their residents.
