Chautauqua County Executive Paul M. Wendel Jr. strongly opposes the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision’s decision to release convicted felons early into the community.
Calling the move “shortsighted and dangerous,” he urges Governor Hochul and state officials to reverse the decision and instead focus on long-term solutions such as reinstating wrongfully terminated corrections officers, repealing pro-criminal legislation like the HALT Act, and ensuring adequate staffing in correctional facilities.
Wendel emphasizes the importance of justice for victims and maintaining public safety, urging the state to prioritize law and order over policies that endanger communities.
