MAYVILLE, N.Y. – Chautauqua County Executive Paul M. Wendel Jr. will present his 2027 Tentative Executive Budget next week, outlining a spending plan focused on affordability, fiscal responsibility and protecting the essential services Chautauqua County residents rely on.
Wendel will deliver his annual budget address on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. during the Chautauqua County Legislature meeting in the Legislative Chambers, 3 N. Erie St., Mayville. The presentation is open to the public, and residents are encouraged to attend in person or watch the address live on the County’s YouTube channel at youtube.com/@ChautauquaCounty.
This year’s budget presentation is themed “Putting Money Back in Your Wallet,” reflecting Wendel’s focus on affordability and responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars.
“At a time when families are feeling the pressure of higher costs for groceries, housing, utilities and everyday necessities, every dollar matters,” said Wendel. “Government has a responsibility to be just as disciplined with taxpayers’ money as families are with their own. This budget is about protecting the services our residents depend on while making responsible decisions that recognize the financial pressures facing our families.”
During his address, Wendel will outline how the County plans to maintain and strengthen essential services while continuing to protect Chautauqua County’s strong financial position and responsibly manage taxpayer dollars.
“Our goal is clear: provide accessible, responsive and effective County services while making sure we are delivering them in the most efficient, effective, impactful and fiscally responsible way possible,” Wendel said. “Residents deserve a County Government that understands the value of every dollar and works hard to make sure their tax dollars are put to work where they matter most.”
The 2027 budget presentation will highlight the administration’s approach to managing mandated costs, like SNAP and safety net, maintaining essential services and making strategic investments while continuing a record of fiscally conservative budgeting.
Wendel will also unveil key elements of the 2027 budget proposal that are designed to provide greater financial relief for County taxpayers while positioning Chautauqua County for continued stability and growth.
“This is a budget built around the people we serve,” Wendel said. “We are going to continue strengthening the services our residents rely on, protecting our financial position and making decisions that put our taxpayers first. I look forward to sharing the details of this plan with the Legislature and the people of Chautauqua County.”
