CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY PREPARES FOR CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH IN APRIL

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, and Chautauqua County's Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children (CASA), the Department of Mental Hygiene and Social Services (MHSS) and community partners are again uniting to help raise awareness of the role we collectively play in ensuring great childhoods for all children. The theme of this month is "Working Together to Strengthen Families."

CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY OFFICIALS WARN OF THE PRESENCE OF XYLAZINE IN THE LOCAL ILLICIT DRUG SUPPLY

County officials are monitoring the emergence of a dangerous substance in the local illegal drug supply.  Xylazine, a non-opioid veterinary tranquilizer not approved for human use, is being found mixed with fentanyl and other opioids in communities nationwide.  Added to these street drugs to extend their effects, xylazine (“tranq”) also increases

Impacts of Trauma Training

The Chautauqua County Department of Mental Hygiene (CCDMH) will provide training on the Impacts of Trauma for the public. The training will be held on March 14, 2023, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the James Prendergast Library, 509 Cherry St., Jamestown, N.Y. The training will be provided free of charge and is open to all community members.

The training will provide an overview of the effects of trauma on individuals. It will include important information regarding the impact of trauma on children, resulting in potential carry-over into adulthood.
