Licenses and Passports

All fees related to a filing must be made payable to the ‘Chautauqua County Clerk’

Payments for licenses and passports are accepted in the form of cash, check, money order, cashier check. We cannot accept credit cards for licensing transactions. 

The following is a current Licenses and Passports fee schedule for the Office of the Chautauqua County Clerk. 

**Passports are to be paid in two separate payments- one for the County, and one for the Dept. of State. Dept. of State requires payment be in the form of a check. County Clerk charge can be paid in cash, check, or card with a 2.5% fee**

NOTARY LICENSE FEES

Notary Renewals                                                                  $60.00

**Due to the recent amendments of the New York Executive Law, 2023 Sess. Law News of N.Y. Ch. 188 (S. 7561), we are seeing changes to the renewal process for notaries public. Whereas previously, notaries public renewed their commissions through the County Clerk, on and after June 30, 2023, notaries seeking renewal will do so through the Department of State. Peddler Permits for County Veterans

Under New York State law, veterans are permitted to obtain a Peddler's Permit that can be used for the sale of items within the county the veteran resides. There is no fee for the license. Please call (716) 753-4976 for an appointment to ensure a clerk is available to process the application, take a photo, and issue the license.  

Honorably discharged member of the United States Armed Forces and their surviving spouses are eligible to apply for a Veteran's Peddler License. This license provides veterans with the right to hawk, peddle, vend, and sell goods, wares, merchandise or solicit trade upon the streets and highways within the county of his or her residence.  The usual fees associated with a vending license is waived for the qualifying veteran or surviving spouse. 

Following are the requirements to obtain your Peddler's Permit:

  1. Must be honorably discharged from a branch of the United States military and present a DD214 to the clerk's office (the discharge may already be on file). 
  2. Be a veteran of any war or conflict or have served in the armed forces overseas.
  3. Be able to provide valid identification, such as a driver’s license or non-driver ID.
  4. Prove residency in Chautauqua County for at least 6 months, either with your driver’s license utility bill, or mortgage payment receipt, etc.
  5. Provide 2 passport photos. Photos can be taken at the County Clerk's Office.
  6. Know what he/she plans to sell and/or the name of the company he/she is working on the behalf of, if applicable

In addition to obtaining a Veteran's Peddler's License from the County Clerk, you will also be required to comply with village or town ordinances related to street peddling. Information can be obtained directly from the individual towns and villages in which the business will be conducted.
